Chef’s Note: I have noted before my aversion to lukewarm coffee. While as a scholar I strive to avoid prescriptivist perspectives, I confess that I am as stringent about coffee as Orwell was about tea.
Coffee, like tea, is to be served and consumed while it is piping HOT. The heat both improves the flavor as well as providing a wonderful sensation of being warmed from within, from cheek to belly. Teal’c’s deep sigh of satisfaction when he is done shows he appreciates this factor.
The real question this scene poses, however, is whether the coffee experience is improved upon using a chug-a-lug mode of consumption? Still, lacking a Jaffa/Chulak constitution, I think I’ll chalk this up to à chacun son goût and stick to sipping.
