Chef’s Note: Happy National Pretzel Day!
And we walk, and listen to the sounds of the night – people from the park, mostly, talking about Metropolis being rebuilt, about where Superman might be right now. And the pretzel’s warm in my hand, salty and pungent…
Chef’s Note: That is some poetic reverie going on there, and why not? As with our recent observation of Peter Parker and the dirty water dog, the pretzel here symbolizes Clark’s choice to pursue a normal life. To leave the cape behind and embrace the pleasures of the everyday and ordinary: to walk with the woman he loves, through a green & pleasant park, on a warm spring night, and to top it all off – a freshly baked pretzel, salty and warm, a bit of mustard to give it a nice zing.
Sometimes food is just the cherry on top: it’s what turns the good into the perfect. Heaven, indeed.
