Starring (in this scene): Henry Cavill as Superman
Chef’s Note: There was quite the storm of controversy when this film came out, and even now, years later, people still argue about and rehash its strengths and flaws.
For me, though, the greatest flaw of the film is right here, right in the first couple moments of this clip. Forget about the whole “False God” thing, forget about Jesse Joker Eisenberg, forget about “Save Martha!” – just look at those SUPER FAKE EGGS! Look at them!
This film had a budget of over $250 million dollars and these are the fried eggs we get? I mean, are they dog toys? How hard would it have been to find some decent fake eggs? Or even… wait, wait, hear me out… how about just actually frying a couple of real eggs? I’m willing to bet Henry Cavill would be capable of it – look at the cake he made!
Is this supposed to be a symbol of how distracted and disturbed Clark is here that, even with his super senses, he can’t see how super duper fake those eggs are? Or is it a symbol of just how jumbled and jangled a movie this is: a virtual god in human form making overtly fake fried eggs.
I’m going to go with the latter because, seriously, they use this same super fake egg footage twice in the same film. C’mon now.
This is a perfect example of why the DCEU deserved to tank, they just didn’t care. It was obvious that those eggs looked like rubber, but they didn’t change anything. Could have used a different shot, or not given them a close up so the audience could see how phony they were, but they didn’t bother. It seemed that was the way WB treated the entire project, don’t make any effort, just pump it out and make money, cuz the competition is doing that and we want our cut of it.
Sadly, without the WB there to dunk on, Disney seems to be taking a page from their book. The Marvel projects they are pumping out seem to be just as careless as the DCEU used to be.
