The Phantom (1996)
Written by Jeffrey Boam
Directed by Simon Wincer
Starring (in this scene): Billy Zane as The Phantom, Robert Colbey as Captain Horton
Chef’s Note: Here we see Kit quite casually helping himself to Captain Horton’s unattended meal.
It obviously wasn’t put out for guests as there is only a single tea cup present, but that didn’t stop Kit who apparently learned his manners in the jungle or something.
Moreover, given that it is obviously tea sandwiches being served, it has likely all been sitting there since the late afternoon, which means the Captain has not only not had tea, but neither dinner as well, and is probably quite hungry indeed.
A tea sandwich (also referred to as finger sandwich) is a small prepared sandwich meant to be eaten at afternoon teatime to stave off hunger until the main meal.
One gets the feeling the Captain is used to this brigandry on Kit’s part, because as hungry as he no doubt is, he does not challenge or dispute the theft but merely makes sure he gets his hands on the remaining sammiches before they all disappear. No use arguing with a man who thinks a skin-tight purple bodysuit is good tropical attire.
