Chef’s Note: “First things first: Food.” If you were not familiar with The Flash, this statement immediately establishes him as a Good Guy who has his priorities in correct and righteous order. This is further established by his choice of how to best display his powers: by fetching ice cream cones for everyone. This obviously bumps him up from Good Guy to full on Hero. Of course, you’d also have your priorities in correct order if you needed to consume 10,000 calories a day* – so, actually, he really can’t help it.
And this explains the look of pure near-angelic rapture that takes over Kara’s face when he utters the word “food” as the first thing of things that shall be first. If you scroll through the slideshow, you can see she is blissfully & goofily absorbed in her ice cream cone. But when he says that magic word she immediately focuses on him, entranced – a cat who has heard the can opener.
She keeps this expression for the next few moments, but when he describes just how much he needs, the slightest corner of a smile appears. For this, indeed, is happening – she has found a friend whose appetite rivals hers and he will not judge her and he will eat donuts & ice cream with her until the end of time. All followed by the quick realization that her jaw has gone slack with gustatory fancy, so she hides behind her ice cream cone to try and contain her embarrassed joy.
Can I also note that Barry is making some very odd faces all this time – possibly due to low blood sugar? Kudos, Ms. Benoist, that is some fine acting there.
Tragically, we are never treated to a scene of them actually gnoshing down. What. The. Heck. Mister. Berlanti.
Chef’s Note: Jimmy! Don’t worry, my good man, she’s not falling in love with Barry. Kara has only one true love:
Chef’s Note: It’s our first TV post! Why? Well, I’ve been reading a lot more comics lately. And watching a lot more TV and movies. And I bet you are too. So I thought we might as well open the selections here to whatever media is keeping people hale & hearty these pandemic days. If you have suggestions, send them my way!
