Chef’s Note: Scholars like myself often must make do with fragments – a shard of pottery, a slip of papyrus, etc. In these brief scenes we learn that The Flash is hosting a dinner. He runs around and invites Jesse Quick, Cyborg, and Iris Allen. Most importantly (rarest of moments!) we are treated to a clear declaration of the main dish: Shrimp Scampi. As a comic book food archaeologist, such moments make my day.
Unfortunately, Jesse and all the rest of us never actually get to see Wally cook or host dinner. Because the Pied Piper escapes prison, and then teams up with Heat Wave, and a gigantic beanstalk springs up, and then purple dragons start attacking the city, and Hawkman joins the fray, yadda yadda yadda – typical superhero day.
Somehow, though, dinner never gets made or even mentioned again. You would think that eventually, at some point, someone would say: “Hey Wally, How about that Shrimp Scampi?” Alas, no.
Maybe I need to change my career and become a continuity supervisor for comic book creators?
Chef’s Note: Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day!
