Chef’s Note: Here’s a puzzling interaction. At first, Mark is quite clear with the deli owner that he is, first and foremost, a businessman – a bounty hunter that works for, well, bounty. Suddenly, and pretty inexplicably, he then has a change of heart, captures the two thieves, and turns them over to the cops.
He tries to cover up this good deed by acting like he was working for the Kim’s all along and takes a salami as payment. This is an utterly transparent ruse to everyone involved, though, so why even pretend?
That said, maybe he just really wanted a salami. He does just start eating it pretty quickly when gets home – doesn’t sit down or take his costume or gloves off; barely takes the wrapper off and just starts gnoshing on it like an ear of boiled corn. Which is fine, really – salami is ready to eat and has a long shelf life.
Still, Mark: some nice crackers or a loaf of good bread, maybe some mustard on the side? Maybe mix it with some scrambled eggs? Treat yourself, my friend!
Chef’s Note: Happy National Salami Day!
