Chef’s Note: Jen starts out her night at a fancy restaurant* with a tiny steak, an annoying narrator, and a truly terrible blind date (wine snob/mansplainer/evil killer robot). Luckily she ends it with cheesy music on a portable radio, tacos and more tacos from Taco Taco, and the company of her BFF, the fabulous Patsy Walker (a.k.a. Hellcat).
This is a great illustration of how food in and of itself is never really “in and of itself.” Like most things, context matters – all the ingredients matter. The best food in the world won’t taste as good if the company sucks and vice versa. Food can magnify social and emotional experiences in potent ways. Everyday disappointment can turn to violent aversion. Simple pleasures can become deep comfort and connection. Nicely done, Ms. Tamaki.
Chef’s Note: “Taco Taco” is a seriously perfect name for a taco food truck – because no one ever eats just one taco. Sadly, no such business exists in NYC from what I can tell. Food truck entrepreneurs take heed here. Think of the cross-marketing possibilities! Who wouldn’t want to have tacos with She-Hulk & Hellcat?
Onomatopoeia: Chomp
A classic, but sort of stale. Decent styling. 2 stars (★★)
