Venom (2018)
Written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, & Kelly Marcel
Directed by Ruben Fleischer
Starring (in this scene) Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom
Chef’s Note: It is interesting to note the progression of reactions of the dining crowd in this restaurant to Eddie’s search for suitable fare. When he first starts grabbing meals off tables, people are confused, some are angry – and justifiably so: taking food from another persons plate is a fraught social practice.
Still, it is when he starts feasting on live lobsters that people react with horror and disgust and begin fleeing the scene. This despite the fact that the lobsters themselves are probably encountering a swift and perhaps slightly less painful end than being slowly boiled alive?
Chef’s Note: It is also interesting that he seems so focused on finding something other than “dead” things to eat. That’s a quite nice looking steak he chomps on and then spits out.
What is the cause of this sudden aversion to cooked food? Especially since the symbiote he is infected with is well known for being quite omnivorous?
My speculation here is that the symbiote is feeling quite compromised &/or weakened here while attempting to bond with Mr. Brock. As such, they are seeking to satiate themselves with some comfort food for an apex predator: a live kill.
