Chef’s Note: The other day we noted that superheroes often must forgo many things, even a lunch-time hot dog, should the call of duty arise.
Here we see the counterpoint. In this scene, Peter Parker has recently decided to give up his superhero ways and pursue a normal life. His decision to eat his newly purchased (and no doubt delicious) hot dog instead of responding to the sirens of emergency is an excellent and emphatic way* to display his commitment to his new life.
Action might be Spider-Man’s reward, but for regular guy Peter Parker it’s a dirty water dog on a steamed bun.
Chef’s Note: We know it’s that kind of hot dog because of the blue & yellow umbrella of the food cart he buys it from, the colors of Sabrett – a NYC company famous for dirty water dogs:
Despite greater availability of grilled hot dogs, the president of Sabrett says there hasn’t been a major fall-off in “dirty-water” hot dog sales. He says that the regulars stand firm in their preference for dirty-water dogs…
