Chef’s Note: Here we find yet another instance of meal interruptus, an unfortunate and regular feature of superhero life. It looks like Sif only got one measly bite of her magnificent sammich!
Props to the cook here, as well. He certainly looked quite bored and jaded when they came in. The main fare on offer, “other meat”, also sounded more than a little lackluster, even suspicious.
But then he offers to make a sammich, special just for Sif, and what a glorious creation it is!
At first glance, while tall, it seems to be of normal sammich span. But then we later see that it is, in fact, likely two halves of a whole loaf. Truly a sammich fit for a goddess. Well done, good cook!
What have we got in there? The bread features sesame seeds and looks whole grain, nice and hearty. There’s certainly plenty of red and green lettuce, and many many layers of cheese.
It seems hard to imagine Sif chowing down on a veggie grinder so meat of some sort must be present, but it is hard to know what precisely. There’s a small drumstick present, but is it chicken? Lamb? Buffalo?
All we really know is it’s not boar, because they just ran out (which, strangely happens at every restaurant when I order boar – what the heck?).
Later on, Peggy complains that all she can smell is chipped beef. I’m assuming this was the “other meat” at the canteen.
But it’s not that either, because it would be a much messier meal. Not really a sammich at all.
If either Agent Immonen or Agent Ellis would care to comment on this mystery, comic book food scholars such as myself would be most grateful.
Chef’s Note: Happy National Sandwich Day!
